WEDC + Ossining Innovates! Accelerator Course Description

This program is designed to introduce participants to entrepreneurial thinking and the entrepreneur’s toolkit. Centered on concepts from Lean Startup and a customer-centric approach to building and running a business or non-profit, upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and apply Entrepreneurial Thinking (mindset & tools to succeed in an ever changing world)
  • Apply creative techniques in order to discover new business opportunities
  • Integrate market research to support and validate business opportunities
  • Identify and use your values to grow your network, build customer loyalty, keep you on-track
  • Identify the kinds of resources you will need to start an entrepreneurial endeavor
  • Understand and assess your risk tolerance and how to quickly, cheaply test your ideas
  • Build your idea, pitch and presentation: share your idea with others
  • Design and test business models (business model canvas)
  • Apply presentation skills

Legal and financial basics will also be introduced. All participants will have at least one mentor committed to meet weekly during the program (20-week formal instruction and mentors + community through the remainder of 2022). Participation in periodic additional (virtual) gatherings and programming is also encouraged.

Women's Enterprise Development Center

The Women’s Enterprise Development Center (WEDC), a 501(c)(3) corporation, has been empowering women entrepreneurs to build successful small businesses since 1997 in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley. This is accomplished by providing comprehensive, high quality business training programs, one-on-one business and loan counseling, networking opportunities, assistance with loan applications for microloans and crowd funding through Kiva Zip, and MWBE certification assistance in English and Spanish. WEDC’s overarching goal is to build a vibrant community of women business owners, comprised of start-up and established companies.
