WEDC Success Story: Cary & Meryl Gabeler of Anjolie Ayurveda

Think you can’t have a thriving business with products made on the other side of the world? Think again. Cary and Meryl Gabeler, the mother-daughter founders of Anjolie Ayurveda, are on top of their game for that very reason: they don’t try to do everything themselves. Made with herbs and essential oils from the Himalayan mountains, the pure and organic aromatherapy skincare line is not something the Gabelers toil over in their kitchen. Meryl calls the endeavor a “for-profit social enterprise,” which means that they are fair trade, or deal directly with the farmers in India and pay a higher price for the crops. They also pay for their workers’ children to go to school. The result: the duo gets to focus on sales, marketing and everything else that goes into running their business which, since they won a WEDC LEAP award, has been growing at quite the clip. The team put the money toward an enormous tradeshow in New York City and signed on new accounts left and right. At the moment, they’re participating in WEDC’s BOSS program (for business owners who have been operating for a year and have business plans) and have set their goals for 2012 higher than ever.

I thought your webisode was terrific!  I already know that your products are great (love that saffron oil), but your social conscience makes the products even more desirable.
