60+ Hour Entrepreneurial Training Program in Peekskill

Fall 2013 graduation of our 60+ Hour Entrepreneurial Training Program.

On December 3, 2013, WEDC presented a workshop on growing sustainable and profitable companies. Panelists were Lea Cullen Boyer, Green Guru Network; Deb Ondo, Breathe Your Fire; Carey Weiss, Sustainability Initiatives Coordinator at Fordham School of Business; and Colette Zito, Zito Consultants LLC. The event was co-sponsored by GREEN EILEEN and Green Guru Network. It was made possible by generous support from Con Edison.

Kendra Porter's HYS Girl's Night Out at the Westchester was a wonderful success! Fun, food, fashion, pampering- perfect end to a day. And lots of WEDC grads- which we love to see! Kecia Palmer-Cousins and Gay Wheeler-Smith (G&K Sweet Foods), Julie Sullivan (Spa Parties at Home), Maria Valente(Chocolations), Gwen Clayton (Alvin & Friends Restaurant) also had tables at the event- and Brooke B. Stachyra (914 Social) modeled her makeover.

Ettie Shapiro, owner of Coaching Results, presented a very enlightening workshop on July 10, 2013 about how to effectively interact with people with different communication styles

The spring 2013 graduation of WEDC's 60+ Hour Entrepreneurial Training Program took place in June at the White Plains Library.

On Thursday, August 22, 2013, WEDC held our annual Train the Trainer program. Because we are introducing our new curriculum, we decided to make this an all day event. We began with a workshop that we opened up to the public entitled, "Write Your Business Plan Now!" Melanie Rae, author of Guided Business Plan, explained what should be included in a plan and guided the participants through writing the first drafts of their executive summaries. During the afternoon, Melanie walked the WEDC entrepreneurial trainers through our new 60+ Hour ETP curriculum. The day ended with our Train the Trainer evening, at which more than 20 staffers and trainers met to go over the training, discuss best practices, reconnect with those we know and meet our new colleagues.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2013, WEDC held its 15th Annual Women's Business Networking Event at Graziella's Italian Bistro in White Plains. More than 70 attendees listened to Wokie Nwabueze discuss Courageous Communication: Your Voice Holds the Key to Business Success. R.Bonnie Haber, Corporate Calm, conducted two small-group networking sessions and David Hochberg (Lillian Vernon's son) presented the Lillian Vernon Award for Community Service to Barbara Venturi, AMBAR Realty Group, LLC.

WEDC's 2013 Annual Event was a wonderful success! Outstanding honorees, inspirational awardees, valuable panel discussion- all at a gorgeous venue with great food! These beautiful photos were taken by WEDC graduate, Domenica Comfort of Domenica Comfort Photographs, www.domenicacomfort.com

WEDC grad Heather Adessa, held the grand opening of GLo Beauty Bar in Mamaroneck last week. Congratulations!

Jean Kristensen, www.mwbesuccess.com, spoke at WEDC's May 2013 seminar, Make M/WBE Certification Work for Your Business.

The 2013 AEO Conference took place from May 5 to May 8, 2013. The theme was Tilt Forward: The Power of Microbusiness. If one in three Main Street microbusinesses hired one employee the country would reach full employment.
